Frida Kahlo - Her Photos
Museum of the Southwest; August 25, 2022 - January 8, 2023

Presented for the first time in the state of Texas, Frida Kahlo – Her Photos, presents the iconic artist’s personal photo collection for the first time in the state of Texas. Locked in the bathroom of La Casa Azul for over fifty years, these images comprise a moving glimpse into Kahlo’s personal life.

It was only in 2003 that the archive was opened and that all hidden documents, objects, and over 6,500 photographs were revealed and studied. By 2009, Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, Mexican photographer and photo historian, as the curator of this exhibition selected 241 of the newly found photographs to compose it.

Frida Kahlo - Her Photos gives viewers the opportunity to get to know the woman behind the artist: her origins and roots, her friendships and romantic relationships, her constant fight with her fragile health, her political tendencies and also, the strong role that photography played in her life and work.
